Sick of having to set your string action high to quiet your guitar's fret buzz? You're not alone... Most guitars have frets that are a few 1/1000's an inch high when compared with their adjacent frets. You can make your guitar play better in a few quick steps: Step 1 - Use a Fret Rocker to identify high frets Step 2 - Adjust the neck to a flat position, then sand or file the offending frets level. Step 3 - Recrown and polish your frets. There is no better way to take care of Step 2 in this process than by using a precision sanding beam to bring all your frets level with one another. Some luthiers prefer to divide the fretboard into three sections and sand each section's frets level. Others prefer to cover the entire fretboard in one operation. SkyScraper Guitars offers 3 sizes of precision sanding beams (6", 12" & 16") to accommodate the preferences of all technicians and guitar builders. Our beams are made of 1/8" thick aircraft grade aluminum and feature radiused edges. The beam material costs more than square cornered tubing but we believe it is worth it as the round corners prevent the abrasive from accidentally digging into the frets. The sanding surfaces of each beam are hand lapped on a machinist's surface plate and they are brought up through abrasive grits until they are flat within .0005" per foot of length. This level of precision will ensure that your fret work is as precise as humanly possible. Once our beams are lapped perfectly flat, they are hard anodized to ensure they will provide a lifetime of service to their owners.

  • These beams are hand lapped on a machinist's surface plate for deadly flat working surfaces
  • Made of aircraft grade 6061 aluminum and bright orange anodized for a long life of service and a killer look
  • 2 Strips Each of 180 and 400 grit Mirka PSA sand paper included
  • Sanding beams can be used for fret leveling, fretboard contouring, body sanding and leveling any sandable surface flat
  • Radiused edges will prevent the tool from digging into frets and causing defects
